My name is Cathy and I am a breast cancer survivor. My story began in 2017 when I was having chest pain, I thought it was stress- heart related at the start. I scheduled a doctor's appointment and remember saying to the nurse, something isn't right. After meeting with my doctor, we scheduled a mammogram as part of the process to discover what was going on. Well, thankful to find out early, I had breast cancer Stage 2 IDC- actually I was so side swiped I called my best friend laughing and said, I think my radiologist just told me I have cancer. Thank God for my girl-friend Miranda, also a survivor, we did a lot of laughing through a difficult process. I was treated at Sylvester Cancer Institute where I received a lumpectomy and lymph node removal because my cancer had spread. Then I had 35 treatments of radiation. I am now cancer free, grateful and hopeful for a long future with family and friend's and continue to pursue my dreams. Most of all pay it forward, I was/am lucky to have good people around me.
For more than 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
