In 2020, the Miami Annual Gala will be directing its Mission Moment funds towards American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program.
Every day, thousands of cancer patients need a ride to treatment. Inadequate access remains one of the biggest concerns to receiving proven, high-quality cancer care.
The American Cancer Society Road To Recovery program provides transportation to and from treatment for people with cancer who do not have a ride or are unable to drive themselves.
The American Cancer Society is addressing this concern by providing cancer patients with free rides to treatment through our Road to Recovery program. Since 2005, we’ve provided more than 9 million rides to cancer patients who could not drive themselves or had no other means of getting to their appointments.
In 2019 alone, ACS provided approximately 29,000 patients with nearly 480,000 rides to treatment. Approximately 10,500 of those provided were in Miami-Dade. Much progress has been made, but there is still much more to do.
Drawing on community volunteers, organizations, and businesses will be critical in making a change in 2020 and beyond. The Annual Miami Gala will play a major role in this change.
For more than a 100 years, The American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With your support, we have helped usher in an era where more people survive cancer than ever before. By translating our research findings into action, we've seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.
